The outer bands of Potential Tropical Cyclone One are currently impacting southern Texas with heavy rain and gusty winds. The system is forecasted to intensify and become Tropical Storm Alberto as it moves through the Gulf of Mexico.
As of early Wednesday, the storm has already brought tropical storm-force wind gusts exceeding 40 mph to the region. Tropical storm-force winds extend up to 415 miles from the developing core of the system, located approximately 315 miles southeast of Brownsville, Texas, moving west-northwest at 8 mph.
A tropical storm warning is in effect for the Texas coast from San Luis Pass to the mouth of the Rio Grande, as well as the northeastern coast of Mexico south of the Rio Grande to Puerto de Altamira.
Heavy rainfall is a significant concern, with southern Texas expected to receive widespread totals of 5 to 10 inches, and isolated areas potentially seeing up to 15 inches. The rain is forecasted to spread across southwestern Texas by Thursday.
Furthermore, the impact of the storm is expected to extend beyond Texas, with some tropical rainfall reaching New Mexico, including areas recently affected by wildfires. This rainfall is anticipated to persist until Friday.
