TripAdvisor has suspended comments for a Scots hotel after staff caused an outrage by refusing to help a terminally ill baby.
On Monday, the Glasgow Times reported that three-month-old Charlie, who lives with a tracheostomy, was taken to Duck Bay Hotel and Restaurant in Loch Lomond last weekend while receiving end-of-life care at Robin House Children’s Hospice in Balloch.
However, the tot's family were left shocked after an employee refused to let them plug in the baby's nebuliser - which turns liquid containing medication into a mist to breath in.
(Image: Image of Newsquest) Charlie's uncle, Bradley Raynham, blasted the hotel on social media after his sister and fiance spent the day there.
Taking to Facebook, he said: "It got to the time Charlie needed his nebuliser so as the restaurant was so busy, they asked at the reception of the hotel if they could use one of the plug sockets so he could get this. While they’re holding him in their arms they were told 'no, we don’t do this here'. Even after explaining the situation they weren’t interested one bit.
"They had to leave and get back to the hospice immediately so they could give him this, when going back they’ve spoken to the nurse there as were obviously upset."
Bradley went on to say that the nurse at the hospice apparently called the hotel twice to try and speak with a manager but was denied both times.
The post quickly created outrage among other social media users, forcing the hotel into an apology.
A statement from the hotel directors and management was posted on Facebook, with the establishment saying the incident was due to a junior member of staff "making a mistake".
Now, a message has appeared on TripAdvisor which insinuates that following the incident the reviewing website has received an influx of non-first hand experiences with the restaurant.
The message reads: "Due to a recent event that has attracted media attention and has caused an influx of review submissions that do not describe a first-hand experience, we have temporarily suspended publishing new reviews for this listing.
"If you’ve had a firsthand experience at this property, please check back soon - we’re looking forward to receiving your review!"
