Trio steal catalytic converter in Horfield before fleeing in Audi

A trio of offenders reportedly stole a catalytic converter from a car in Horfield before fleeing the scene in an Audi. The group, all wearing black clothing, targeted a car in Rodbourne Road at around 9.45pm on January 25.

They were reportedly seen to leave the scene in a silver Audi A3, with a 08 licence plate. The Audi drove along Butterfield Road away from the site towards Bishopthorne Road.

Avon and Somerset Police has appealed for any witnesses to the alleged theft and anyone who has any other relevant information relating to the car used in the offence. Anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting reference number 5223019791 or complete an online appeals form.

Police have also asked the public to ensure that anything "out of the ordinary" is reported straight away in the effort to prevent converter thefts, "such as a car up on jacks being tended to by individuals wearing face masks".

Motorists are also advised to take the following steps themselves to protect their vehicle from being targeted:

  • Avoid parking half on the pavement, half on the road, as this may provide thieves with easier access to the underside of your vehicle.
  • Park your vehicle in a locked garage whenever possible.
  • Try to park in busy, well-lit areas, or areas covered by CCTV.
  • Ask your garage to tell you your catalytic converter’s serial number, and make a note of it.
  • Consider purchasing forensic liquid and using it to mark your catalytic converter.
  • Place a protective covering over your catalytic converter.
