Trio of long term injured set to return to boost Bristol Bears

Bristol Bears are set for a trio of key players to return to action from the long-term injured list in the next fortnight.

Director of rugby Pat Lam revealed scrum-half Andy Uren could return next weekend away against Northampton Saints, with key winger Luke Morahan another week behind him.

Meanwhile Bristol Live understands centre Sam Bedlow, who has not played since January due to a shoulder injury, could return to action in the midweek Premiership Rugby Cup clash with Gloucester Rugby on Wednesday night

Additionally, strike winger Siva Naulago will be back in action next weekend having served his three-match ban for back-to-back red cards and Charles Piutau made his return from his niggling Achillies problem off the bench in the 27-23 defeat to Saracens on Saturday.

Lam made no secret of the fact his side are now looking to peak for the forthcoming Heineken Champions Cup last 16 knockout round games home and away to Sale Sharks, with a run in Europe an opportunity to salvage the club's underperforming season sitting 10th in the Gallagher Premiership having set a place in the final as their bottom-line target at the start of the campaign.

Speaking at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Lam said: "We have got Andy Uren back next week, and he is like Harry Randall, he instinctively knows our game and that gives everyone around him more time on the ball and the ability to make better carries.

"Luke Morahan is not too far away as well."

Morahan pulled his calf in early February in the 37-21 victory against Newcastle Falcons and Andy Uren pulled his hamstring scoring a try in the same game.

Uren is one of seven scrum halves the Bears have lost to injury on unavailability since the turn of the year, with Randall away with England during the Six Nations but now back, Tom Whiteley (hamstring) and Toby Venner (knee) both out for the season, while loan signings Oscar Lennon (calf) and Max Green (wrist) suffered short term issues.

Even U18s scrum-half Pete Carter, who was named on the bench for the Premiership Rugby Cup win against Bath two weeks ago, had to pull out in the warm-up after suffering a slight muscle pull.
