Trigger Point's Vicky McClure promises ITV viewers a 'bumpy ride' as new thriller kicks off

It had a lot of build up and Vicky McClure promised fans a 'bumpy ride' as Trigger Point finally started on ITV last weekend, with the end of episode one leaving fans shaken.

The broadcaster first announced plans for the new thriller last summer, with the fact that Line of Duty star Vicky and the BBC drama's creator Jed Mercurio were both involved, sending expectations sky high from the get-go.

The focus of Trigger Point's plot is a terrorist campaign which threatens London during a boiling hot summer.

It's the job Explosives Officers Lana Washington (Vicky) and Joel Nutkins, played by Adrian Lester to find out who is behind the bombings before they escalate further.

As excitement built for Trigger Point's first episode on Sunday, January 23, Vicky, known to Line of Duty fans as Kate Fleming, took to Twitter to get viewers even more hyped up

Posting a picture of herself in her new TV guise, Vicky wrote: "Strap yaselfs in for a bumpy ride over the next 6 weeks! I’m beyond proud of the work everyone put into the show and can’t wait to see everyone’s efforts played out Sunday nights 9pm @ITV starting TONIGHT!"

Vicky's tweet quickly gathered a barrage of comments, with one of her many followers replying: "Cant wait to watch this tonite (sic) looks like a really gripping storyline. You're an ace actress Vicky so excited to see you in this different role."

A second told her: "Can't bloody wait for this!!" with another reacting: "Can't wait to see it. I have missed you on our tv screen. Thank you for this."

It was action all the way from the off on Trigger Point as a teaser for episode 1 read: "In the middle of a summer heatwave, Explosives Officers (“EXPO”) Lana Washington and Joel Nutkins are called out to a Metropolitan Police counter-terrorism operation at a London housing estate to investigate a potential bomb factory and a suspected bomb maker, Andy Phelan.

"There is no sign of the bomb maker, but his wife and young daughter have been restrained and his wife forced to call in the bomb threat. She is now fearful for her husband’s safety."

it added: "The assailants broke in using Phelan’s keys, which are now missing, leading to a race against time to locate Phelan and his vehicle."

We won't spoil things but, if you think Trigger Point takes a while to get going, stick with it as the ending of the first episode is seriously dramatic!
