Trigger Point fans slam 'predictable' ending as ITV announce second series of show

Trigger Point fans reckon the series finale was "so, so predictable" as ITV confirmed there's going to be another series of the show.

The six-part series, starring Vicky McClure as explosives officer Lana Washington, reached its conclusion tonight - but viewers weren't happy.

When the episode started, squad member John Hudson, played by Kris Hitchen was top of the suspect list.

However it was eventually revealed the person behind the bombing attacks was Lana's love interest Karl, played by Warren Brown.

After a rather far-fetched code cracking exercise involving the periodic table, Lana realised Karl hadn't come to by-election she was policing to vote.

As he jumped on stage with a pack of explosives strapped to his chest, it was revealed the tortured soul was behind the deadly attacks in the series, including the death of Lana's brother.

Producers were no doubt hoping for a high-octane twist, but fans reckoned they knew it was Karl all along.

One took to Twitter writing: "So Disappointed #TriggerPoint So So Predictable, Knew It Was Karl. Nearly Everybody Said The Same Thing."

Another said: "Called it.... but then again, didn't we all?"

A third mused: "Was pretty obvious from the moment he appeared onscreen."

Someone else wrote: "Solved Trigger Point two weeks ago."

While a fifth joked about former soap star Warren: "Once you’ve played a bad guy in hollyoaks I will never trust you to be a good guy in any other shows you are in."

The criticism came as ITV announced they had renewed the show for a second series.

As the credits rolled the broadcaster confirmed the news on social media.

Producer Jed Mecurio said: "Everyone at HTM Television is thrilled by the success of Trigger Point. Thanks to all our brilliant cast and crew and especially to the viewers who watched in such large numbers.

"We've received unswerving support from ITV throughout the production and we are delighted to have been commissioned for a second series.'

Scriptwriter Daniel Brierly added: 'I'm honoured and excited to be given the chance to continue Lana's story.

"I feel there's many more twists and turns in her future. It's been thrilling to see how the public have responded to our show and I can't wait to see what they will make of the next instalment!"
