On Thursday, Flt Lt Santichai Panyathong opened fire at his neighbour after the latter attempted to intervene in an argument between the officer and his wife. The unnamed neighbour survived the incident and is in medical care while the shooter has been taken into custody.
In response to the crime, ACM Wongwiwat submitted a request to the air force commander-in-chief, ACM Alongkorn Wannarot, that he and his deputy be subject to disciplinary action as a show of responsibility.
ACM Wongwiwat said Flt Lt Santichai would face legal action as decided by a committee currently reviewing the matter.
ACM Alongkorn has issued a call for all members of the force to practise restraint and mindfulness in the face of issues, whether they are work or personal. He urged them to seek guidance from their superiors or psychological experts made available by their units when the need arises.
