Arsenal legend Ian Wright has backed Tottenham to cause Liverpool ‘problems’ in Saturday evening’s Premier League clash at Anfield.
Tottenham travel to Liverpool two points outside the top four after Sunday’s 3-1 victory over Leicester City. The Reds have picked up a remarkable 38 points from their 14 Premier League games in 2022 and need to win their final four games to retain their hopes of an unprecedented quadruple. Wright believes that Saturday’s game will be the toughest remaining assignment for Jurgen Klopp’s men.
“I think that Tottenham game for Liverpool looks a tricky one,” he told the Kelly and Wrighty Show . “You don’t know what Tottenham are going to turn up. If any team can cause them problems, then it could be a Tottenham. I said ‘Tottenham are very well equipped to beat Man City’, and they beat them [3-2].
"They’re very well equipped because they’ve got the front men and they have defensive [solidity], especially when they’ve got the five [at the back] away from home where they can frustrate you, but they can also hurt you up the other end.”

Tottenham haven’t won at Anfield in over a decade nor finished ahead of Liverpool since the 2017/18 season. The reverse fixture at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium ended 2-2 in December. Despite the draw, it is clear there is a huge gap in quality between the two clubs. Wright however was full of praise for Antonio Conte and believes he is the man to take Spurs to the next level.
He said: “Tottenham are going to have do unbelievable stuff to catch what Man City and Liverpool are doing, in respect of squads and achievements. If there is a manager that is going to help them to do it, then it will be Conte. It’s frightening, at the moment, with what Spurs could do with this manager, Harry Kane and Son [Heung-min].”
