Tributes have been pouring in for a much-loved East Lothian man, who was known throughout his community.
Frankie Grant passed away ‘suddenly but peacefully’ after complications from a fall on April 11. From his involvement with the local rugby club and youth group, to horse riding or his contribution to the local council - he was known throughout Musselburgh.
His daughter Fiona spoke to Edinburgh Live about his life. She told us: “Dad went to Campie School where he first discovered his knack for being a goalkeeper.

“Up at Musselburgh Grammar, he continued his sports by playing rugby, captaining the school basketball team and turning out for Musselburgh Windsor Football Club. He also enjoyed cricket, golf and hill walking.
“He was very active in the Musselburgh community throughout his life. President of the Musselburgh Youth Group, as well as being heavily involved in the committees of both the Honest Toun’s Association and Musselburgh Rugby Club.
“He also served on the Musselburgh Community Council.”
Frankie was elected as Honest Lad in the 1968 Musselburgh Festival. During that year, his daughter told us he made ‘lifelong friends’ from across the Borders - many of whom stayed in touch for the rest of his life.
Since then, he continued to support the festival, and went on to become president of the event in 2004. Over 30 years prior, he met his soon-to-be wife Irene whilst working as a bus conductor.
The couple went on to marry and have two children - Fiona and Barry. Fiona continued: “Latterly, Frankie kept busy meeting his pals for breakfast and coffee in town.
“He remained an avid supporter of Musselburgh Rugby Club throughout his life attending matches as often as he could.”
The funeral of Frankie Grant will be held on May 11 at 12pm, in the main chapel at Mortonhall. Fiona added: “Family flowers only please, all welcome to attend.
“The funeral tea will be afterwards in Musselburgh Rugby Club where we can all share our fond memories together.”
