Tributes to Bristol City superfan Stoney Garnett

Tributes have been paid to Bristol City FC superfan and stand-up comedian Stoney Garnett.

The local legend was well known around Ashton Gate, and ran for mayor of Bristol twice, in 2012 and 2016. Bristol City's official Twitter account confirmed that he had passed away and wrote: "Rest in Peace Stoney Garnett."

And the Robins' former players association also paid tribute on Twitter and wrote: "Very sad to hear the passing of Stoney Garnett . A massive City fan who was always popular with the players. Condolences to the Garnett family."

In 2019, Garnett was named by Bristol Live as one of the 21 people who make Bristol a happier city to live in. Reporter Neil Maggs wrote at the time: "Stoney Garnett is one of Bristol's real characters. The stand up comedian, compere and Bristol City superfan, is as known for his one liners, as he is for his dress sense.

"Always sporting a big red trilby hat, and feather, he often dresses in the red of his favourite team. A well-known face at Ashton Gate, his eccentric ways have made him a household name in the city.

"He loves to dance, and for someone of his age is surprising light on his feet, often seen pulling moves in the bars surrounding the stadium.

"Stoney stood as mayoral candidate for Bristol in 2012, and 2016. He didn't win."
