Tributes pour in for 'kind and caring' son of Kerry GAA legend Mick O'Dwyer following heartbreaking loss

Tributes have poured in following the death of Kerry GAA legend Mick O'Dwyer's son Haulie.

Micheál' Haulie' O'Dwyer sadly passed away on Thursday in the Tralee Palliative Care Unit following a short illness.

The O'Dwyer family have all remained heavily involved in GAA throughout the years, with Haulie's father, Mick, having won eight All-Ireland football titles in charge of the Kingdom.

Haulie will be reposing in Fitzgerald's Funeral Home, Waterville, from 4pm to 8pm on Friday before Funeral Mass at 11am on Saturday in St Finian's Church.

Burial will take place afterwards in the adjoining ceremony.

A funeral notice reads: "The death has occurred of Michael (Haulie) O'Dwyer in the presence of his loving family, in the Tralee Palliative Care Unit. Late of Killurley West Ballinskelligs and formerly of Waterville County Kerry. Predeceased by his mother Mary Carmel and aunt Noreen Moriarty. Adored and sadly missed by his loving wife Liz, father Michael (Micko) Dwyer, brothers John, Robbie, Karl, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, parents-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended O'Dwyer and O'Shea families, neighbours and friends."

Countless tributes have been made to Haulie, who was remembered as "the kindest and most considerate and encouraging of people".

In an emotional tribute, Waterville GAA Club said: "It was with the greatest of sadness that we at Waterville GAA learned of the passing of Micheál "Haulie" O'Dwyer.

"Haulie served at all levels with the club as a mentor and committee member. His contribution is immense and his imprint will be felt for years to come. His style was always to encourage and support and his loyalty to club and parish was clearly evident.

"All who worked with Haulie enjoyed the experience and found him to be the kindest and most considerate and encouraging of people.

"There are so many people and homes that will deeply feel Haulie's loss, he was such a regular caller to so many people. However it is his adoring and adored wife Liz who will feel that loss most.

"To Liz, his father Micko, brothers John, Karl and Robbie, Mother in law and Father in Law, Patsy and Maureen sisters in Law and Brothers in law, greatly loved nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends and neighbours that we extend our sincere condolences.

"Haulie will forever be remembered here in the club and community to which he gave so much.

Others recounted their experiences with the Kerry man as they reminisced, saying: "Sincere sympathy to Liz, Micko, John Robbie and Karl and the O Dwyer and O Shea families on so sad passing of Haulie May his gentle soul Rest In Peace. Haulie was a gentleman, he was a nice man to meet any day of the week and always with a smile on his face."

A second said: "Heartfelt condolences to Liz, the O'Dwyer and O'Shea families on the death of your beloved Haulie. An unassuming gent whose warm personality and ready smile will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him."
