Tributes pour in for 'gentle soul' Martin McGill killed tragic Creeslough blast as funeral details confirmed

The funeral details for Martin McGill, one of ten victims of Friday afternoon’s petrol station explosion in Creeslough, have been confirmed.

Tributes have been pouring in online for the ‘lovely’ man with a ‘gentle soul’ as his family and friends come to terms with their tragic loss.

Martin McGill, 49, will be laid to rest on Tuesday, October 11 at 2pm in St Michael’s Church, Creeslough with his burial afterwards in Doe Cemetery.

His death notice read: “The tragic death has occurred, in Creeslough, of Martin McGill. Sadly missed by his mother Mary, sisters Marie Louise and Caroline, brothers-in-law, Mathew and Iain, nieces and nephews and extended family and friends. Predeceased by his father Joseph.”

Martin passed away, alongside Catherine O'Donnell, 39, and her 14-year-old son James Monaghan; Robert Garwe, 50, and his five-year-old daughter Shauna Flanagan Garwe; 14-year-old Leona Harper; Jessica Gallagher, 24; James O’Flaherty, 48; Martina Martin, 49, and 59-year-old Hugh Kelly.

Martin’s remains will be reposing at his mother's residence at 3 St. Michael's Terrace, Cresslough from 11:00 am on Monday, October 10 - with family time requested from 10:00 pm to 11:00 am.

His funeral mass will take place on Tuesday, October 11 at 2:00 pm in St Michael’s Church, Creeslough with his burial afterwards in Doe Cemetery.

Hundreds of people from the local community and far beyond have been offering their condolences to the family, as one mourner wrote: “Thinking of you all at this very sad & difficult time. We are all so shocked and saddened by this terrible tragedy. May he rest in peace.”

Another added: ”Deepest sympathy on the passing of Martin, May his gentle soul rest in peace. You are in our thoughts and prayers.”

A third wrote: “Broken-hearted for the loss of your lovely Martin. May his gentle soul rest peacefully.”
