Tributes pour in for Cork man killed in Kerry rally crash

Tributes have been pouring in for the Cork man who died at Cork University Hospital following a crash at a car rally in Kerry on Sunday afternoon.

The driver crashed during the race at the Killarney Forest Rally at Mount Eagle in Castleisland at around 3pm.

The young man was rushed to C.U.H with serious injuries and passed away in hospital last night, he has now been named Eoin McCarthy, aged 22, from Dunmanway.

A second man, who is in his 30s and who was a passenger in the vehicle, was also taken to Cork University Hospital following the crash where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

"McCARTHY (Kildee, Dunmanway): on February 20th, 2022 as a result of a tragic accident. EOIN (aged 22) beloved son of Liam and Nora (nee O’Driscoll) and loving brother of Conor and Rachel," the post on RIP.ie reads.

"Sadly missed by his loving family, Conor’s girlfriend Maeve, aunts, uncles, gran-aunts, gran-uncles, cousins, work colleagues at Wesco, and a large circle of friends.

"Family flowers only. Donations in lieu, if desired, to Irish Community Air Ambulance (communityairambulance.ie/make-a-donation/ ). House Strictly Private. Rest In Peace.

"Messages of sympathy can be left on the condolence link below or on www.patosullivans.ie"

Event organisers issued a statement announcing the tragic death.

Killarney and District Motor Club said: "The Killarney and District Motor Club regrets to inform that following an accident on stage four of the Killarney Forest Rally, a competitor succumbed to his injuries and passed away in Cork University Hospital tonight.

"We extend our sympathies to his family and friends. May he Rest in Peace."
