Tributes pour in as young Irish woman dies after being diagnosed with lung cancer at 28

Tributes have been paid to Irish woman Aoife Tobin after her death following a lung cancer diagnosis at just 28.

Bray woman Aoife, who had been living in Laois, died at home after a brave battle with cancer which saw both communities rally together to help her fight the disease.

Aoife previously worked as bar manager at Abbeyleix Golf Club where her partner and father are both members, Laois Live reports.

The club led tributes to Aoife after her death on Wednesday.

"It is with deep regret that we announce the death of Aoife Tobin, May she R.I.P

"On behalf of everyone at Abbeyleix Golf Club we extend our condolences to our Vice Captain Matt, Aoife’s Dad John (member) and all extended families and friends. Aoife’s beautiful smile and her friendliness to everybody will be sorely missed by all here in the Club. Rest gently Aoife."

"So sad to lose a beautiful lady, who lit up the bar in her time there. Matt our hearts go out to you, sleep peacefully Aoife," a member of the club replied to the statement.

A further tribute read: "Rest easy old friend, you'll always be remembered for how brave, strong and positive you were! Thinking of all your family and friends at this time."

More than €16,000 had been raised in a fundraiser organised by Aoife's aunt Wendy for her treatment.

Her aunt previously said Aoife was like any other 28-year-old woman before her shock diagnosis last year.

Aoife was laid to rest today at Shanganagh Cemetery following her funeral in Bray.
