Tributes have poured in for a former Labour councillor who has sadly passed away.
Sam Taylor, 77, who was the last convenor of North Ayrshire Council, died yesterday.
Labour councillor Donald Reid said: "The North Ayrshire Labour Group is saddened to report the death of Sam Taylor.
"Sam’s career in council crossed from employee to councillor and Sam was the last convenor of North Ayrshire Council.
"A long-term employee, he was based in Kilmarnock as a justice social worker with Strathclyde Regional Council. He also served in Cunninghame District Council holding many different roles.
"Sam left office in 2007 at the introduction of multi-member wards, losing the election in most part due to his positioning on the ballot paper.
"The Labour Group extend our sincere sympathies to wife Mary and the extended family at this sad time."
Former Captain of the Carters Andy Tremble added: "He always had time to talk and a great sense of humour. Thoughts to his wife Mary and family."
Sam's widow Mary said: "He joined the Labour party in the 70s and I would say his proudest moment was becoming convenor of North Ayrshire Council.
"He was a wonderful father and grandfather to our four children, six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren."
Funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.
