It is believed they were killed in late July as they moved close to the summit of the Matterhorn, according to the Irish Independent.

A funeral notice states that Mr Ryan, who was living on Marlborough Road, London and formerly of Mourne Road, Dublin 12, died suddenly in Switzerland on July 27.

Funeral arrangements are to be announced at a later time.
