Tributes paid to young man 'with bright future ahead of him' tragically killed in Easter weekend crash

Tributes are pouring in for a young man who died over the Easter weekend following a road crash in Co Donegal.

Johnny Treanor, who was in his 20s, died following a collision between his motorbike and a car on Monday.

The incident happened on the R231 at Killinangle More in Rossnowlagh shortly before 5pm.

Mr Treanor was treated by medical personnel at the scene but was pronounced dead a short time later.

The Monaghan native is being remembered as a talented rally driver and "a great sportsman".

One fellow driver said: "Shocking sad news to hear. My sincere condolences to all the Treanor family, his friends, girlfriend, and all extended families.

"I had the pleasure of competing against Johnny on many occasions and I can honestly say one of the best talents in this country to ever get behind the wheel of a Rally car.

"Taken far too soon just a young man that had a bright future ahead of him REST IN PEACE SIR."

Monaghan Motor Club paid tribute by writing: "We are saddened to hear of the sudden passing of Johnny Treanor. He had an incredible driving talent with success in various motorsport categories. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this difficult time."

The AutocrossIreland Facebook page added: "Sad to hear the news of Johnny Treanor's passing at such a young age. A great sportsman who loved anything with wheels and speed.

"Condolences to his family and friends at this difficult time. May He Rest In Peace."

While Women in Motorsport Ireland paid tribute by saying: "Extremely sad news this morning to hear that Jonny Treanor has sadly been taken too soon.

"It's a sad day for the Motorsport family in Ireland as we lose another talented young driver.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends and the motorsport community. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam."

And the This Is Irish Rallying page added: "Not nice news to be waking up to. Another talented competitor taken way to soon. Our thoughts go out to all your family and friends during this tough time. RIP Jonny Treanor."

Mr Treanor's funeral details will be announced in due course.
