The family of a mother and her five-year-old daughter who died while walking in Plymouth have paid tribute to a “strong young woman” and her “larger than life” child.

Destiny Harrison, 24, and Linnea Harrison died in the collision in the St Budeaux area on Sunday morning.

A 74-year-old woman from Plymouth was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and of driving while unfit through drink or drugs. She has been released under investigation.

The Harrison family said in a statement issued through Devon and Cornwall police: “It’s with heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected and devastating loss of Destiny Harrison and of Linnea Harrison who passed yesterday, together.

“Destiny, a beautiful, strong young woman who was the doting mother to the larger-than-life Linnea who never failed to make you smile.

“Our family will never be the same without you two. Words will never express how much we all miss you both. Sleep tight angels. You’ll never be forgotten. We love you. Always and forever.”

A family member, Orin Harrison, has set up a GoFundMe appeal to raise money for the funerals.

A friend posted on social media: “I’m absolutely heart broken for all of you. We all know each other for life, from little baby’s to adults. Sending my love to every single one of you I just feel so sick I can’t imagine for you.”

Emergency services were called at about 9.45am on Sunday to a report of a collision involving a Nissan Qashqai and two pedestrians in Victoria Road. Paramedics, the fire service and police all attended the incident.

The road was closed while officers from the roads policing team carried out investigations. It was reopened at about 8.55pm.

Sgt Troy Bennett, who is leading the investigation, said: “Specialist officers from the serious collisions investigation team are investigating the circumstances of this tragic collision. We would urge anyone with any information or footage from dashcams or doorbells to contact us.”
