The devastated families of two teenagers who died when the car they were in crashed near a Swansea garage have paid tribute to their "loving" and "caring" children. South Wales Police have said that Kaitlyn Davies and Ben Rogers, both 19, were killed in the crash at Northway Garage, Bishopston, on Tuesday (May 31).
Their families have thanked everyone for the messages of support they have received since the crash. Paying tribute to Kaitlyn, who was from Blaenymaes, Swansea, her family said: "Kaitlyn our bright, bubbly, kind, caring girl, your smile was brighter than the sun and lit up every room you entered.
“To say we are devastated doesn’t come close, you were so loved by everyone you met. We were there for your entire life and now the memories we made will have to last us the rest of ours. We are overwhelmed by the outpouring of love we have been shown but now ask that our privacy be respected.”
Ben, was from Bonymaen, Swansea, and his family said “ Ben was an amazing, clever, chatty and witty young man. He always had smile on his face which always lit up the room when he entered. He was such a loving caring person who had time to talk to anyone who’d listen which explains why he had so many friends.
“He would always offer support to anyone who needed it. It would be fair to say he lived life flat out and squeezed every ounce of enjoyment out of it that was possible. The loss of Ben has had a profound effect on us all and if we’re honest, we are all still numb with shock as the gravity of what has happened hasn’t truly sunk in.
“Ben was our son, and he was deeply loved by all the family and will be missed beyond any words could express. A piece of all our hearts is broken but we will do our best to keep his memory alive forever. We would like to thank everyone for all their kind words of love and support which are all gratefully received. Finally, we’d like to thank all the emergency services and members of public at scene who did their very best under what must have been difficult circumstances.”
Police are continuing to investigate the crash, involving a red Alfa Romeo Mito containing four occupants, that happened at around 11.15pm. More details are here. The two other occupants of the car were taken to hospital with serious injuries.
Councillor of Bishopston ward, Lyndon Jones said: "People in the community are very upset about it. Our thoughts are with the families affected, and we hope the two other people in the car fully recover. It's a shocking thing to happen."
The owners of Northway Garage, Jenkins Bros Ltd, wrote in a post on Facebook: "All the staff at Jenkins Bros Ltd would like to convey their condolences to the friends and families of those involved in the tragic incident that occurred last night at Northway Garage. We wish a speedy recovery to the other injured parties. We would also like to thank the emergency services and the members of the public who helped at the scene. Thank you to those who have offered their help and kind words to us at Northway Garage. We really appreciate it."
The road was closed for a number of hours whilst investigation work was carried out. Police would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision and has not yet come forward, or from anyone who saw the manner in which red Alfa Romeo was being driven prior to the incident and from anyone with dash cam footage.
