Tributes have been paid to "one in a million" Evan Reid after a body was found in a Paisley river during a search for the Scots dad.
Officers were called to an area of the White Cart Water near Arran Avenue in the Renfrewshire town after a body was discovered in the stream shortly before 10am on Monday. Formal identification is yet to take place, however Evan's heartbroken family have been informed.
The 31-year-old had last been seen on a train home to Irvine, in Ayrshire, after a night out in Glasgow on Saturday, March 25 - but he got off at Paisley Gilmore Street in an "agitated" state. Following the devastating news that a body had been found, tributes flooded in from heartbroken loved ones, who described Evan as "a great young guy".
In a post on Facebook, family friend Kirsty McClunie, who was heavily involved in the search, said: “We are heartbroken. Evan, you were one in a million and will be missed by so many.
“The support from everyone the last two weeks has been incredible, It shows how much you were loved! Love you so much.”
Steph McBlain said: “RIP Evan Reid. We will treasure all the fun times and laughs we had. A neighbour that became our best pal. Loved winding you up with Simply The Best! You’re sadly going to be missed. My heart goes out to Nicole and Remi.”
Iain Cohen said: “You never think it will happen to one of your own. Rest easy pal, one of the most genuine nicest guys I’ve shared company with. Thinking of your own family and your wee family you created. My heart breaks for you.”
David Woody Watson said: “RIP Evan Reid. May God grant you eternal rest. A great young guy taken too young, leaving a lovely partner and beautiful girl. Many a laugh we had bud, top fella.”
Candis Mcmillan said: “Such a shame. My heart breaks for him and his family and friends. He was the nicest boy you could ever meet and talk to.”
Penny Buchan added: “Devastating news and not one we’d been praying for. A lovely genuine guy, taken too soon, who will be missed by many. My heart and thoughts are with his family at this terrible time. RIP Evan.”
Friends and family of the dad-of-one had urged him to get in touch after he went missing and police spoke to over 150 people regarding his disappearance.
Last week Evan's girlfriend said the family had 'so many unanswered questions' in a gut-wrenching message to the 'love of her life'.
Nicole said: "My love, my life, my everything. Over a week now since you have went missing, over a week since I have seen your face, over a week since I have heard your voice.
"So many unanswered questions we all have, you are one in a million, so loved by so many."
Police say there are "no apparent suspicious circumstances" surrounding the death.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "The body of a man was found in the White Cart Water near Arran Avenue in Paisley around 9.55am on Monday, 10 April. He is still to be formally identified but the family of Evan Reid, 31, who had been reported missing on Friday, 25 March have been made aware.
"There are no apparent suspicious circumstances and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in due course."
