Tributes paid to Northern Ireland biker killed in Carlingford on cross-border ride

Tributes have been paid to this biker who died while on a cross-border ride with his pals.

Damian Gill, who was in his 60s and from Belfast, died when he lost control of his motorbike near Carlingford in Co Louth on Sunday.

Mr Gill was a member of the Belfast-based Irish Wolfhounds Motorcycle Club.

He and around 10 pals from the club had ridden from Belfast to Carlingford earlier in the day and were heading back home when the accident happened at around 3.30pm close to Omeath.

No other vehicle was involved in the crash and Mr Gill was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Irish Wolfhounds paid tribute to him on their Facebook page late on Sunday night.

The club said: “Tragically today we lost a club member, friend and brother. Our heartfelt condolences to Damian’s family.”

And another biker said:” Lost a good friend and absolute gentleman in Carlingford today.”

While another pal said: “Absolutely gutted to hear of the passing of my good friend Damian Gill.

“I shall miss his dry wit, his talent and generosity in all things ,may he rest in peace .

“Thoughts and prayers go out to his family at this terrible time.”

Gardai in Dundalk have appealed for witnesses to the crash to come forward.

A spokesman said: “At approximately 3:30pm, Gardaí and emergency services were alerted to a single vehicle collision involving a Motorcycle on the R173 between Carlingford and Omeath.

“The driver of the motorcycle, a man in his 60s was pronounced dead at the scene and taken to Louth County Hospital Dundalk where a postmortem will take place at a later date.

“Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them. Any road users who were travelling in the area at the time with camera (including dash cam) footage, is asked to make this available to Gardaí.

“Anyone with information can contact Dundalk Garda Station on 042 938 8400,
