Tributes paid to much-loved Buddie one week on from Paisley crash

The victim of last Saturday’s tragic crash in Paisley has been described as “the nicest guy you could ever meet”.

Stuart Crawford was on Causeyside Street at 10.15pm on Saturday, March 11, when he was struck by a silver Ford Fiesta.

He was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.

Yesterday, as Police Scotland confirmed his death, people from across Renfrewshire paid tribute to a man clearly loved by many.

The 37-year-old was well known amongst punters at the Craig Dhu and De Beers bars and was a devoted member of Paisley Golf Club.

Writing on social media, the management of Craig Dhu said: “The team at the Craig Dhu are deeply saddened by the passing of our dear friend and regular customer Stuart.

“Stuart was a much loved character by all at the Craig Dhu and he’ll be sorely missed. Our thoughts are with Stuart’s family and friends at this sad time.”

Many of his friends also took to social media to express their shock and grief at loss of such a young man.

One wrote on Facebook: “Lovely guy, very popular young man. Everyone at his beloved Paisley Golf Club are devastated. Never heard anyone say a bad word about Stu. Thoughts and prayers with family and friends.”

A sentiment echoed by many, another man described Stuart as “the nicest guy ever”.

He said: “Our hearts are broken as he will no longer be with us. We are all so grateful to have had Stuart in our lives. I will miss our football chat. Rest in peace dear friend. You will never be forgotten.”

Another wrote: “So sad! You were such a lovely person, always a smile on your face, one of the good guys.

A third friend described Stuart as a “diamond of a boy” while another said: “Love you forever my friend. RIP the nicest fella I will ever meet.”

Police are still appealing for witnesses to the incident on Saturday night to come forward.

Sergeant Christopher Hoggans said: “Our thoughts remain with Stuart’s family and friends at this difficult time.

“Our enquiries are still ongoing and we are keen to trace the drivers of a red Ford Fiesta, and a silver-coloured estate car, possibly a taxi, who might have witnessed the crash.

“I would also ask anyone with any dash cam footage or private CCTV which may assist us to contact us.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact 101 quoting incident 4151 of 11 March, 2023.
