Tributes have been paid to the "lovely" mother of Green Party leader Eamon Ryan after she died this week whilst on a family holiday.
Mary Ryan died unexpectedly following an accident on Inisbofin Island, off the coast of Galway.
Many family friends said they were "shocked" and "saddened" to hear of her sudden passing and extended their sympathies to her family.

Mary was remembered in the tributes as a "friendly and engaging" person who had a "wonderful smile" and a keen love of bridge.
One person wrote: "I am so saddened to read of Mary's death. I have wonderful memories of playing bridge with her over many years."
A second wrote: "I was so sorry to read of Mary's death & would like to offer her family my sincere sympathy. Mary was such a lovely person with a wonderful smile. We had many happy times together in the bridge club before Covid intervened."
Meanwhile a third said: "Deeply shocked and sorry to hear the sad news of Mary's passing. She was a very good friend from the banking days and we had many nice holidays together."
Another said: "[Mary] was a very friendly and engaging person and we always enjoyed meeting her over the years— be it at Bank events or at Kelly’s Resort Hotel. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time."
Many Irish politicians including the Ceann Comhairle of Dáil Éireann also passed on their condolences to Eamon Ryan, the Minister for Environment, Climate and Communications.
Mary was airlifted to to Galway University Hospital following the accident on Inisbofin but sadly later passed away on Wednesday morning, according to the Irish Independent.
A death notice on Rip.ie states that Ms Ryan, who lived in Sandycove, Dublin, died “unexpectedly but peacefully”.
It reads: “Mary, beloved wife of the late Bob, loving mother of John, Eamon, Robert and Marion; Sadly missed by her children and their partners, her adored grandchildren Harriet, Lorcan, Séamus, Fintan, Isabella, Jack, Oliver, Ino, Tom, Róise, Sean and Harry, great-grandson George, her sisters-in-law, extended family, neighbours and friends.”
Ms Ryan will be reposing at her home, with removal on Saturday, August 13, to St Joseph’s Church, Glasthule.
Her funeral mass will take place at 10am on Saturday followed by burial in St Fintan’s Cemetery, Sutton.
