Tributes have poured in for a “lovely young fella taken way before his time” following a single-vehicle crash in Co Wexford on Sunday.
Ronan Fitzpatrick was killed after he was thrown from the vehicle he was a passenger in when it collided with a tree and “flipped several times” on the R733 Newline Road, outside Wexford town, at around 10.40pm.
Gardai and emergency services rushed to the incident, but despite best efforts, the 31-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.
His body was taken to University Hospital Waterford for a full post-mortem examination.
The driver of the vehicle, a 39-year-old man, was treated for head injuries and was arrested after becoming aggressive with gardai.
He was later released without charge, and a file is being prepared to be sent to the DPP.
Ronan will be reposing at his residence on Thursday from 3pm to 9pm before removal on Friday to The Church of The Holy Spirit, St Leonards, for funeral mass at 12pm, followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.
A funeral notice reads: “Beloved son of Eugene and Nell, brother of William and beloved nephew of Michael, Frankie and the late Robert and Mag. Sadly missed by his loving parents, brother, uncles, extended family and friends.”
Tributes have poured in for the young man who was remembered as a “great character and friend”.
One person wrote: “Rest peacefully Ronan. Another lovely young fella taken way before his time”.
A second said: “So sorry to hear of the death of Ronan, such a shock. I will miss him so much. Just listening to the sound of the David Brown everyday coming up the hill and Ronan waving the hand as he passed by. One great memory. Ronan may you Rest In Peace.”
“Sorry Eugene, Nell and William for your loss. Ronan was a great character and friend I will miss him a lot,” wrote a third.
While a fourth said: “Deepest condolences on the sad loss of Ronan, his friendly smile and happy presence will be greatly missed on the shore, by all of us. Thinking of his family and many friends at this sad time.”
