Tributes paid to former Scots footballer Adam Strachan after sudden death aged just 35

Tributes have been paid to former Partick Thistle midfielder Adam Strachan after he was found dead aged 35 yesterday.

Adam, from Maryhill, started his senior career at Firhill in 2004, and played for several clubs in the junior and senior ranks including Albion Rovers, Clyde, Arbroath, Ross County and Clydebank.

Heartbroken friends, family and many of his former clubs have taken to social media to pay their respects since the news of the young dad's death emerged late last night.

The circumstances surrounding Adam's passing are not yet known.

At 19, he played in Partick ’s first team, starring in Scotland’s top flight and regarded as one of the country’s most prodigious young talents.

Sadly Adam's career and personal life went on a downward spiral shortly after.

While at Ross County in 2009, he was charged with assaulting his girlfriend, before being jailed for carrying a knife in 2012 and then, the following year, he was caught by cops with £2000 worth of heroin.

After being released from prison in 2013, Adam went on to represent Glenafton Athletic, BSC Glasgow and East Kilbride.

Scottish Premiership side Ross County led the tributes to their former midfielder.

A statement said: "Ross County are sad to learn of the passing of former player Adam Strachan.

"Adam spent two seasons in Dingwall making over 50 appearances. Our thoughts are with Adam’s family, friends and loved ones at this time."

Clydebank FC wrote: "All at Clydebank FC are saddened to learn that former Bankie Adam Strachan has passed away, aged just 35.

"A hugely talented player who scored 11 goals in 28 appearances over two spells with us.

"Our condolences are with Adam’s friends, family and ex-teammates at this sad time."

Glenafton Athletic posted: "Everyone at Glenafton Athletic was saddened to hear about the tragic passing of Adam Strachan.

"Adam played for the Glens in Season 2014/15 and played a huge part in the club winning the Ardagh Sectional Cup.

"As you can see he enjoyed holding the trophy. Our thoughts are with Adam’s family and friends at this sad time."

A friend of Adam's said: "Rest in peace Adam Strachan. I will never forget you mate. You made me laugh, cry and just enjoy life. You weren’t a angel but god so many people loved you and will never forget you mate and a mean that. Rest easy tripod."

While another wrote: "R.I.P Adam Strachan. Cannot believe the news. You were a one off. Had some unbelievable times up at Ross County Football Club. You will be missed."

In an interview in 2016, Strachan said he wished he could turn back the clock and change the path his life went on.

He said: "I can’t change how people think about me. They’ll have read the papers and seen all the stories – I can’t change that.

“If I was looking at it, as a member of the public I’d think the same about the guy in the pictures. So I can’t play down any of the mistakes I’ve made. I know how serious they are.

“I’m not sitting here saying I’m really Mr Nice Guy because I’m not. If I was, these things wouldn’t have happened.

“I’ve got a wee girl now and that makes life harder when you make those mistakes. I’m not one for cliches. I’m not going to say that I’ve got focus now and I’m looking to the future.

“When you’ve made the choices I have and you’re in a bad place, you need to sort yourself out first before you think about anyone else. You’re no good to anyone if you’re not in a good place yourself. Right now, I feel I’m in that place.”
