Tributes paid following the passing of popular Lanarkshire businessman

Tributes have been paid following the death of a well-known Hamilton businessman.

James 'Jimmy' Tyrrell, of Tyrrells of Burnbank furniture and flooring, passed away peacefully last Thursday, aged 84, surrounded by his family.

Joining the shop in 1957, Jimmy was an integral part of the family business for 65 years, leading the team with a warm and kind heart, expecting nothing other than first class customer service.

In a social media post to customers, staff said: "Jimmy was a well-respected man of the community and much loved by customers to whom he also had the pleasure of calling friends.

"He was very proud of Tyrrells of Burnbank and his passion and love for the business and most importantly it’s customers will continue to live on.

"The family would like to thank everyone for their condolences and heartfelt messages."

Customers, those who worked with the company over the years and fellow business owners paid tribute to the Lanarkshire entrepreneur, with Carol Cameron posting: "May you rest in peace, Mr T - a legend, personally and in the business community."

And Craig Dyer said "It's 33 years since we first had the pleasure of meeting Jimmy. As so many have said, he was an absolute gem, a fantastic character, a warm, caring personality and a man of his word.

"Sincere condolences to his loving family and many friends."

Maureen Rodgers added: "Jimmy was in our company at Lourdes many years ago, we all enjoyed his many stories and tales of his interesting life. He was a lovely gentleman.

"RIP Jimmy. Condolences to the family."

Others described him as having a "great sense of humour" and a "lovely gentleman."
