Tributes have been paid to a former Dumbarton FC player, who died last weekend aged just 35.
Adam Strachan was found on Saturday July 9, with tributes pouring in from former clubs and teammates.
Strachan joined the Sons shortly after their promotion to the Second Division in 2009 having impressed during a trial spell, but made just three appearances for the club before being loaned out to Albion Rovers.
The Maryhill born winger started his career at Partick Thistle - making almost 100 appearances for the Firhill club before joining Ross County in 2008.
He went on to enjoy successful spells at Clyde, Arbroath and Sons’ West Dunbartonshire rivals Clydebank, before issues off the park began to derail his career.
While he was at Ross County in 2009, he was charged with assaulting his girlfriend, before being imprisoned for carrying a knife in 2012.
The following year, he was caught in possession of £2000 worth of heroin.
In an interview in 2016, Adam said he wished he could turn back the clock, saying: “I’m not sitting here saying I’m really Mr Nice Guy because I’m not.
“I have a wee girl now though and that makes life harder when you make those mistakes.”
After being released from prison in 2013, Adam returned to Clydebank and went on to represent Irvine Meadow, Glenafton Athletic, East Kilbride and BSC Glasgow - where a horrific ankle injury ended his playing career at the age of 31.
In a statement on their website, the Sons said: “All at Dumbarton FC are extremely saddened by news of the passing of our former player Adam Strachan, aged 35.
“The thoughts of everybody at Dumbarton FC are with Adam’s family and friends at this sad time.”
Ex-Son John Gemmell said on social media: “Adam tormented the life out of me at Partick Thistle, but what a great boy he was.
“He should’ve gone all the way with his unbelievable talent. So sad to hear the news. RIP pal.”
And fellow former Dumbarton man David Winters posted: “RIP my friend. Single-handedly the funniest boy I’ve ever met in football, also one of the most talented players I’ve ever had the pleasure to play with.
“The kind of guy who walks into a room and makes everyone smile. Rest easy, my brother. I will miss you.”
Partick Thistle players wore black armbands during their Premier Sports Cup clash with Kilmarnock last week, with boss Ian McCall - who managed Strachan at the club - saying: “It’s horrendous news.”
