Tributes have poured in for Sligo mother-of-two Angela Canavan, who gardai believe may have died a violent death.
Those who knew Angela, a native of Crossmolina in Mayo but a resident of Sligo town for several years, described her as a 'gentle' woman with a 'twinkle in her eye'.
Ms Canavan was believed to be in her late fifties and was well-known in the area, with locals saying she was regularly seen out walking her little Jack Russell dog called Millie.

She was found at her home in St John’s Terrace late on Monday evening, where she had been renting a property by herself for more than five years.
According to a post on Rip.ie, her funeral will take place on Saturday at 10am in St. Tiernan's Church, Crossmolina, Co Mayo.
People took to the condolences book to pay tribute and express their sympathies with her family and her surviving two sons.
One wrote: "To the Canavan, Walsh, and Molloy families we offer our deepest sympathy on the sad loss of Angela. Angela always had a smile and a twinkle in her eye. God Bless and comfort you all at this difficult time. May Angela's soul Rest in Peace."
Another said: "Deepest sympathy to all of Angela's family and friends on her sudden passing. I spoke with Angela on almost a daily basis, and she was a lovely woman who will be missed from Sligo. I pray her gentle soul will R.I.P."
A third wrote: "Deepest Sympathy to the Canavan family on the passing of Angela. Angela will be dearly missed by all the staff and service users of the Irish Wheelchair Association Sligo. May she Rest In Peace."
Angela's body was discovered at her home shortly after 8.30pm Monday evening and the emergency services were called to the scene. It's understood she had sustained injuries to her head.
The Irish Mirror previously revealed that the post mortem on Angela Canavan was inconclusive - which means the experts cannot be definite as to the cause of her death being from an accident or from a violent assault.
Officers had initially suspected that Ms Canavan may have died as a result of a fall at her rented home in the city centre.
Sources say officers are now moving away from the theory and are treating her death as suspicious.
Sources have told us investigators probing her death in Sligo Town on Monday evening now suspect she died from foul play.
“The post mortem was inconclusive, but there is something not quite right about this case,” one source said.
“The main theory now being examined is that she suffered a violent death and her passing was not accidental.”
