Tribute to Queen Elizabeth on Glasgow war memorial 'vandalised' on day of funeral

Tributes left to Queen Elizabeth II at a Dennistoun war memorial were allegedly vandalised yesterday, on the morning of her state funeral.

Images shared to a social media page show a pot noodle which has been emptied over the tributes, and images of the Queen which were left had been removed.

It is believed that the vandalism must have taken place before 8.50am yesterday morning, as a member of the page arrived to clean the memorial then, and they found the ground still wet.

The statement shared to the Dennistoun War Memorial Facebook page yesterday said: "To the person who decided to remove the picture of the Queen and throw what looks like a pot noodle over the tributes.

"The police will be notified and they will no doubt be looking at the cctv which covers the memorial 24/7.

"This must have been done shortly before 8.50am this morning as the ground was still wet when I arrived to clean the memorial.

"We have most definitely seen the best and the worst of Scotland this past few days."

Members of the local community took to the comments to express their anger, with one saying: "No dignity or respect, this is very sad. I'm sure you can't be feeling very proud of yourself."

While another fumed: "They must be so proud of their cowardly act, shame on them!"

Police today confirmed to Glasgow Live that they were investigating the alleged incident.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We can confirm that we have received a report and enquiries are at an early stage.”

The Facebook page has since posted an update for followers, saying: "Police Scotland have been in touch in regards to the incident at the Dennistoun war memorial.

"They will be visiting me tomorrow and requesting camera footage from Milnbank housing association who have cameras looking directly onto the memorial.

"I'd like to think that a child has spilled it's food onto the wreath's and flowers and the picture of the Queen has simply blown away.

"I wouldn't bet on it though."
