Trevor Noah tweeted, “I said counsel Kanye not cancel Kanye” after the news that the controversial rapper was barred from performing at the 20222 Grammys. Noah is set to host the awards show for the second consecutive year.

This isn’t the first time Noah has weighed in on the rapper’s behavior surrounding the divorce from his ex-wife Kim Kardashian. On the March 15 episode of The Daily Show, Noah said, “Over time, Kanye has become more and more belligerent in how he tries to get Kim back” and insinuated that West needed professional mental health help.

The drama between West, Kardashian and her new boyfriend, Pete Davidson, has escalated including West releasing a music video where he decapitates a claymation version of Davidson and West leaking texts that Davidson sent him. Noah spoke on the ins and outs of the story as well went on to say, “What we’re seeing here is one of the most powerful, one of the richest women in the world unable to get her ex to stop texting her, to stop chasing after her, to stop harassing her. I grew up my whole life in an abusive household, right?... One of the things I found most interesting was how often people told my mom that she was overreaching.”

West reacted to the remarks made on The Daily Show by calling Noah a racial slur on Instagram, which led to West being banned on the app for 24 hours. The app cited that the ban came from a violation of the company’s hate speech, bullying and harassment policy.

A rep for West confirmed to Variety that the rapper is now barred from performing at the April 3, 2022 Grammys due to his “concerning online behavior” even though the rapper is up for five awards including album of the year and rap album. The Grammy situation pushed Noah to weigh in again.

At the time of publication, West had deleted all of his Instagram posts. While his page has minimal content, he has retained his 15.8 million followers. Replies to Noah’s tweet about the situation ranged from many supporting West to others noting that not being able to perform is not “canceling” an artist especially when many have called and insinuated that his current behavior towards Kardashian “abuse.”
