Trevor Noah to host Spotify podcast after leaving ‘The Daily Show’

Former “The Daily Show” star Trevor Noah is returning to hosting — this time on a new Spotify podcast.

Noah will host a weekly program for the streaming platform in which he explores the “hottest and most captivating topics of the moment,” Spotify announced Tuesday.

“We’ll engage in interesting and meaningful conversations with some of the world’s most fascinating people,” Noah said in a statement. “We’ll also probably fix every single issue humankind has ever faced so you definitely want to join us for every episode.”

The podcast is expected to launch later this year.

Noah, 39, replaced Jon Stewart on Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show” in 2015 and hosted the late-night program until his last episode aired in December. The New York City-set show has not named Noah’s permanent replacement, instead turning to weekly guest hosts before the ongoing Hollywood writers strike halted production in May.

The South African-born Noah has also hosted the Grammy Awards in each of the past three years.

“We are excited to collaborate with Trevor to create an original podcast that seamlessly combines his unique humor, insightful commentary, and consummate interview skills on a global scale,” Spotify podcast executive Julie McNamara said in a statement Tuesday.

Noah’s addition comes less than a week after an announcement that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s Spotify podcast, “Archetypes,” was ending after one series. Barack and Michelle Obama also parted ways last year with Spotify after their podcast partnership.
