Trevor Lawrence: ‘We have to clean some things up’ before season

There are high expectations for the Jacksonville Jaguars offense in 2023, but quarterback Trevor Lawrence isn’t convinced it’s ready to roll into the regular season quite yet.

“As an offense as a whole, to be completely honest, we have to clean some things up,” Lawrence told reporters Thursday. “Procedurally, we got to be cleaner, we got to be more detailed, more consistent. Too many little mental errors, it’s me as well. It’s all of us, we got to be more consistent.

“Our highs are great, we just got to eliminate some of the lows, and I think that’s going to be a big thing for us. We’re getting better, but we don’t play for a few more weeks. We got time, that’s the one thing to takeaway.”

Lawrence, 23, began his preseason with an interception on his second throw against the Dallas Cowboys. It was his only pass on the night that wasn’t caught by a Jaguars receiver, but that didn’t stop the quarterback and coach Doug Pederson from being disappointed with the shaky start.

There’s a lot of continuity for the Jacksonville offense with Pederson and Lawrence teaming up for a second season along with Travis Etienne Jr., Christian Kirk, Evan Engram, Zay Jones, and Jamal Agnew.

Calvin Ridley and Tank Bigsby headline the new faces getting added to the mix.

Lawrence finished the 2022 season with 25 touchdowns, eight interceptions, and earned his first career Pro Bowl nod after replacing the Super Bowl-bound Patrick Mahomes.
