With a trip to Pittsburgh on the way, Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence was asked Wednesday if he’s too young to know about The Terrible Towel.
“No, I know what they are,” Lawrence said with a smile. “The little yellow towels they swing around.”
It was an innocuous (and accurate) description of the yellow towels that are impossible to miss at Pittsburgh Steelers games. It was also followed by Lawrence heaping praise on the Steelers’ stadium, organization, and fans.
But somehow Lawrence’s use of the word “little” still ruffled some feathers:
Disrespecting the towel never ends well

Lil yellow towels? Lil? There’s nothing little about the city of Pittsburgh.
I hope somebody pops him upside his forehead with a Terrible Towel after our win.

Jaguars running back Travis Etienne Jr. and outside linebacker Travon Walker were both asked the same question in the locker room Wednesday. Etienne said he just learned about the Terrible Towel on Monday and Walker had never heard of it before.
The Week 8 game will be the Jaguars’ first trip to Pittsburgh since a playoff game in January 2018, a few months before Lawrence graduated high school.
