Trevor Lawrence injury: Jaguars QB suffers ankle injury

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence appeared to suffer a serious ankle injury late in the team’s Week 13 game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Shortly after the game ended, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network said the injury is being initially diagnosed as a sprain, but an MRI will tell more.

On a third down play, Jaguars left tackle Walker Little stepped on Lawrence’s left ankle. After trying to get back to his feet, a visibly upset Lawrence went back down and threw his helmet in frustration.

Lawrence was helped off the field and taken to the locker room.

The Jaguars’ backup quarterback is former San Francisco 49ers starter C.J. Beathard. The team also has former CFL star Nathan Rourke on the practice squad.

Earlier in the season, Lawrence suffered a knee sprain but was able to play through the injury. More than a month after suffering the injury, the quarterback continued to wear a knee brace.

Prior to the injury, Lawrence had 259 passing yards, two passing touchdowns, and a rushing touchdown. The Jaguars missed a 48-yard field goal attempt to take the lead on the following play.
