Trevor Lawrence was thrown in the blender to begin his NFL career. After three years of success at Clemson, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft endured a brutal rookie year with the Jacksonville Jaguars under head coach Urban Meyer, who was fired after only 13 games.
A year later, Lawrence got on track with new head coach Doug Pederson leading the way.
Now, for the first time since his days in college, Lawrence is enjoying an offseason that hasn’t included getting to know a new coach and a brand new offensive system.
“To have the same staff, to have a lot of the same players, to have that carry over, and the system, especially — this is the first time in a while I haven’t been learning a new offense,” Lawrence told reporters Monday after an OTA session.
“So that feels good having that. Being able to focus on little parts of my game instead of just making sure I got the installs and I know the plan going into practice. Obviously, you look over that too, but not having that stress of learning the playbook, I can focus on my game and my mechanics.”
Lawrence, 23, made a massive leap in his second NFL season, improving his passer rating from 71.9 as a rookie to 95.2 in year two. After throwing 25 touchdowns and eight interceptions during the regular season, Lawrence earned Pro Bowl honors and finished seventh in NFL MVP voting.
