Saints keeper Trevor Carson feared his season was over before it even started after picking up a knee injury.
But now the St Mirren number one is collecting clean sheets after helping the Paisley club seal a third consecutive Premiership win.
Having suffered knee problems in the past, the 34-year-old was anticipating the worst at the start of the campaign when the problem flared up again.
After successful treatment in London, the Northern Ireland international returned fully fit and has helped his side keep three successive shutouts.
Speaking exclusively to Renfrewshire Live Sport, Carson insisted a large part of the credit has to go to his teammates in front of him and to the club for helping get his knee issue swiftly dealt with.
Carson said: “The first two games of the season it was doom and gloom from the outside. But we knew in the changing room that we were doing things right and things would change.
“Listen, we’ll not get ahead of ourselves either. It’s great to get three wins in a row and three clean sheets and now it’s important that we build on it. Massive credit has to go to the lads in front of me, because if you look at the games back I haven’t had an awful lot to do.
“The gaffer has given us the game plan for the last three games, the boys have carried it out. It’s a team game and we’re all delighted.
“It was a massive scare personally early on. I’ve got history with my knee and it flared up.
“I think we did fear the worst, I certainly did. The club sent me down to the top man in London and he gave me a couple of injections.
“My mindset was doom and gloom and within a week I was back training. Fair play to the club for sending me to the top man and getting me the best thing.
“It feels great now and it always feels better after you win a few games too, so long may it continue.”
Carson is well known to his compatriot and boss Stephen Robinson having played under him before at both Morecambe and Motherwell.
This run of form is no surprise to the stopper, who decided to relocate his family to Scotland after getting settled with his family in the North East of England – a decision he didn’t take lightly.
Carson continued: “As a family we had moved back down to the North East and we were settled.
“I wouldn’t have come back up here if I didn’t think we were going to have a right good go this season. I’m not surprised one bit and to be fair to the gaffer, he’s changed his mindset a little bit from the start of the season.
“He wanted us to play at the start of the season and he saw it wasn’t working.
“It takes courage from him to change it. The first two games we didn’t pick up the points, but he saw enough in the performances to stick by the formation and the philosophy that he wants and we’re getting the rewards now.
“It’s no disrespect to our players, we’re good enough to handle the ball.
“I think you’ve seen in the last few games, we’re a better team on the counter attack and when we’ve got a solid base.”
