Chelsea’s players are chasing history as they target a third trophy already this season in Sunday’s Carabao Cup Final against Liverpool.
Thomas Tuchel’s side may be effectively out of the race for the League title, but Trevoh Chalobah insists belief is high that this could still be an unforgettable campaign.
The reigning European champions lifted the World Club Cup in Abu Dhabi earlier this month. That was added to the European Super Cup, won in August.
They go head-to-head with Liverpool at Wembley for the first domestic silverware of the season and are still in the FA Cup. Chelsea also put one foot into the quarter-finals of the Champions League with a 2-0 win against Lille on Tuesday.
Tuchel has led them to every final possible in just 13 months at the club — and Chalobah says that fuels belief there are plenty more trophies to come.
“We want to win every game, no matter the competition,” he said. “No matter if it is the FA Cup, Carabao Cup or Champions League.
“We are in a position now where there are trophies we could potentially win. The next game is a final and, of course, we want to win that. We are just taking every game as it is and it could be a historic season for us.”
Chalobah added: “In the last years we’ve been in a lot of finals. We know what it takes. We’ve had ups and downs, lost some and won some as well. We know that feeling, that feeling of winning — that’s what we are going to take into every game.”
Tuchel has a big call to make over Romelu Lukaku, after dropping the £97.5million club-record signing in midweek.
Lukaku was given four days to convince his manager he deserves a start and, privately, is adamant he is ready to play, despite Tuchel claiming he was exhausted earlier this week.
Mason Mount is in contention to start after recovering from ankle ligament damage, while Mateo Kovacic and Hakim Ziyech are both expected to be available despite limping out of the win against Lille.
Chalobah is also hoping to start after his dramatic rise under Tuchel this season.
The defender was due to go out on loan last summer, but was so impressive in pre-season training he was thrust straight into the first team picture.
He has since signed a long-term contract and is seen as a big part of Chelsea’s future plans.
He said: “This time last year, I was at Lorient on loan. I never thought then I would potentially win my third trophy this season already. I am still pinching myself to this day. Every game and every training session is just a proud moment to be in this team.
“Being at home here in London with my family and getting to play for my boyhood club is a nice feeling. It shows the work I have done and I want to be here for a long time. I don’t want to just be here for five years.”
