Trevoh Chalobah questions decision not to send Naby Keita off as Liverpool beat Chelsea in Carabao Cup final

Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah has expressed his disbelief about the fact Naby Keita was not punished further for a tackle on him during Sunday’s Carabao Cup final.

The Liverpool midfielder collided with the 22-year-old in the 58th minute and appeared to accidentally plant his studs into Chalobah’s inner thigh.

Keita was shown a yellow card and VAR intervention did not increase his punishment, something Sky Sports pundit Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink said he was “surprised” about.

Ultimately, the game would go to penalties after an entertaining game during which Romelu Lukaku and Joel Matip had goals ruled and Kepa Arrizabalaga, brought on ahead of the shootout, missed the decisive spot-kick to award Liverpool their ninth League Cup.

Chalobah scored his penalty and took to social media after the game to question why Keita was not sent off for the gruesome challenge.

“Had to get stiches because of this,” he wrote.

“Referee is right there I don’t get it??”
