Trevoh Chalobah breaks silence on Chelsea future amid Inter Milan transfer links

Trevoh Chalobah has left the possibility of a transfer to Italy open amid interest from Inter Milan, but noted that he is focused on Chelsea for the moment. The Blues defender is currently holidaying in the country with Chelsea not yet back for pre-season.

football.london understands that the 23-year-old was also set to decide whether or not Milan is a suitable place to live. It's believed that the defender was set for a meeting over a potential move to Internazionale, who are negotiating with Chelsea over a deal.

Chalobah was linked with a departure from Stamford Bridge 12 months ago when the likes of Inter and Roma were interested in a possible move in addition to Tottenham. The Cobham product ultimately remained in west London and was one of the club's better performers under Graham Potter and Frank Lampard.

He faces a great deal of competition heading into the 2023/24 season as things stand. Chelsea will add Levi Colwill to their ranks after his Brighton loan, with Wesley Fofana, Benoit Badiashile, Thiago Silva and Kalidou Koulibaly also providing competition. The latter could yet leave the club, with Mauricio Pochettino known to make use of a back four rather than back three, playing time could be difficult for some with no European football for rotation.

Regular gametime is said to be among Chalobah's priorities with the next season heading into EURO 2024. The former Lorient loanee featured 33 times for the Blues last season, predominantly operating as a centre-half. football.london understands that Inter are expected to push hard for his signature.

Speaking to Sky Sports in Milan, Chalobah was coy over his future but spoke highly of Italy and Serie A.

He said: "Obviously you don't know what the future holds. I played in France as well when I went on loan there, played in England and you never know. When you play in a new destination it is something for a player to experience. You don't know what the future holds. Italy is a nice country and the Italian league is very good as well. You don't know what the future holds. I'm still a Chelsea player and focused on Chelsea but you never know what the future holds. I like it here in Italy, the weather is good, the people are nice, the food is good and I'm enjoying my time here."

Chalobah's future has yet to be decided but with Pochettino set to form a new culture at Chelsea once his squad is trimmed down, the young defender could play a key role. Former caretaker manager Frank Lampard spoke highly of Chalobah's application during his time at the club.

The former Chelsea midfielder said: "It’s been nice and I appreciate what a high-level player he is. The bigger picture is the way he’s applying himself since I’ve come back. He’s a delight to train with every day because he comes in with enthusiasm. He’s low maintenance, and when you talk about the things you want, he tries to do them on the pitch — which is a great thing."
