Trent Sainsbury Returns To Central Coast Mariners For Three Years

Central Coast Mariners Football Club

Central Coast Mariners have secured a significant boost to their championship defense with the return of former Socceroos defender Trent Sainsbury. The 32-year-old center-back, who played 60 games for the Mariners between 2010 and 2014, has signed a three-year deal with the reigning A-League Men champions.

Sainsbury expressed his excitement about rejoining the club where he began his professional career, stating that it was a full circle moment for him. He consulted with football director Matt Simon and head coach Mark Jackson before making the decision to return to the Central Coast.

Having represented Australia in 61 international matches, including the 2018 World Cup and the 2015 Asian Cup-winning team, Sainsbury brings a wealth of experience to the Mariners. Despite missing out on the 2022 World Cup squad, he is eager to contribute to the club's success and help them achieve more silverware.

Mark Jackson expressed his delight at securing Sainsbury's signature, highlighting the importance of bringing back a player who started his professional journey with the Mariners. The signing comes at a crucial time for the club, following the departure of key players such as Josh Nisbet, Max Balard, Jacob Farrell, and retired goalkeeper Danny Vukovic.

Sainsbury's return to the A-League Men comes after a successful career overseas, most notably in the Netherlands and Qatar. His addition to the Mariners' squad is expected to bolster their defensive line and provide leadership on and off the pitch as they aim to build on their previous season's achievements.
