Trent Alexander-Arnold pinpoints when he knew it was 'game over' for Arsenal in title race

Trent Alexander-Arnold believes that Manchester City will retain their Premier League crown and wouldn't be surprised if they win every game between now and the end of the season.

Pep Guardiola's side have won their last nine top-flight matches and sit one point above Arsenal with a game in hand in the race for the title. City secured a 4-1 victory over the Gunners last week and can edge closer to their third successive title with a win over Leeds at the weekend.

However, Arsenal were in pole position to win the title at the start of last month, but a run of four games without a a victory has brought them down to second. Although the Gunners returned to winning ways by beating Chelsea on Tuesday, they are set to miss out on their first title since 2004 - should City continue their run of form.

When asked about the title race, Alexander-Arnold told Red Bull : "The league's obvious now and I've said it for a while. If City are even anywhere close, if they smell blood at Christmas, New Year - it's game over really, there's no stopping them once they start winning and now at this point, I'd be surprised if they drew a game.

"I think it's just got to be mindset, I think it's just the messaging because they don't even go behind in games at this point. There's no messing around, there's no scares, there’s no ups and downs.

" Arsenal was exciting because they were dropping points, but in an exciting way. Whereas City, I don't even know how to describe it, it's like juggernauts."

Alexander-Arnold's Liverpool aren't having the most successful campaign for their standards, after pushing City all the way for the Premier League title last season. They sit in fifth, four points behind fourth-place Manchester United in the race for the Champions League, although the Red Devils have a game in hand.

Jurgen Klopp's side secured their fifth consecutive win by beating Fulham on Wednesday as Mohamed Salah struck in the first-half at Anfield. Following the game, Klopp said: "Really pleased with big parts of the game. First half, controlling, creating, not finishing the situations off but we saw for analysis reasons a couple of games of them.

"Especially their last game against City, you could see City couldn't create chances like they usually do - it was counter-pressing, direction, wing-balls [from] deep and counter-attacking themselves, or quick attacks.

"So, we were prepared for that, we knew they close the centre extremely well, but I couldn't respect more what Marco [Silva] is doing there because they had to make five changes from the last game. Before that game already they had injuries, so that's a really tough task."
