Trent Alexander-Arnold names four more teams who could challenge Liverpool and Man City for Premier League title

Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold believes this year's Premier League trophy could be the hardest to win as his side prepare to mount another title charge this term.

The last five league titles have been won by either Manchester City or Liverpool, with Pep Guardiola's side winning four of those. On two occasions, however, the Reds have been beaten by just a single point in 2018/19 and 2021/22.

This season, Jurgen Klopp will hope his players can push on all fronts once again. But Alexander-Arnold believes winning the title could be even harder due to one key reason.

“I think the other teams will get closer,” he told The Mirror. “The likes of Tottenham, Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United are all strengthening. There are world class managers everywhere in the league too.

"The aim is obviously to win the league. But I think this year could be the one of the hardest ones to win because of the level of opposition. It’s gone up another level once again.”

Liverpool's rivals have strengthened their squads heavily this summer, Tottenham and Arsenal have both invested while Chelsea continue to be linked with some big name players.

The Reds themselves have spent money, bringing in Fabio Carvalho, Calvin Ramsay and a potential club record signing in Darwin Nunez. Liverpool kick off their season this Saturday with an away trip to Craven Cottage to face newly-promoted Fulham.
