Trent Alexander-Arnold lauds Man City star Kevin De Bruyne as the 'best midfielder in the world'

Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold has lauded Manchester City superstar Kevin De Bruyne, suggesting that the Belgian will go down as one of the greatest midfielders in Premier League history.

De Bruyne has registered 89 goals and 134 appearances for the Blues since arriving at the Etihad Stadium from German side Wolfsburg in 2015. The 31-year-old is currently fifth in the Premier League all-time assists list - 67 behind leading assister Ryan Giggs.

The midfielder has won a host of team and individual accolades during his time in England, winning the Premier League Player of the Season award on two occasions, while also winning 12 trophies with City.

Having been a standout player in the division for a number of years, De Bruyne has consistently received widespread praise from his opponents. Liverpool ace Alexander-Arnold has recently praised the City star and expressed his admiration for the player.

"Best midfielder in the world, hands down. For me, somehow he keeps trying to sneak into my top three Premier League midfielders ever really," Alexander-Arnold told talkSPORT.

"I've never seen someone be able to create like he does, he will go down as one of the best midfielders in Premier League history."

De Bruyne has come up against Liverpool on 15 occasions in his career, but the 31-year-old has been on the winning side on just three occasions. However, the midfielder has still managed to record three goals and five assists against the Merseyside outfit.

The City star will be returning to England from the World Cup in Qatar sooner than many predicted after Belgium failed to qualify for the knockout stages of the tournament. He played the full 90 minutes in all three Group F matches, but was unable to make the desired impact as the European outfit went out with a whimper.
