Trent Alexander-Arnold issues no-nonsense message to rivals over Liverpool's ambitions

Trent Alexander-Arnold does not intend to revel in Liverpool’s Carabao Cup final victory over Chelsea for long.

Alexander-Arnold played the full 120 minutes and scored his spot-kick in the shoot-out as Liverpool triumphed 11-10 after a 0-0 draw at Wembley on Sunday.

After 21 successful penalties in succession, Kepa Arrizabalaga blazed his effort way over the crossbar to hand Liverpool their ninth Carabao Cup, but their first since 2012.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have now claimed the first silverware on offer in the 2021/22 season and they remain in contention for three other trophies.

Liverpool are second in the Premier League, six points behind Manchester City with a game in hand, while they are also aiming to win the Champions League and FA Cup.

Alexander-Arnold has now won five trophies altogether with his hometown club, but the right-back is already targeting more, with the possibility of the quadruple keeping him motivated.

“1/4. Hungry for more..” he tweeted alongside a picture of him holding the Carabao Cup.

Liverpool don’t have much time to enjoy their Wembley win, with an FA Cup fifth round tie against Norwich coming up on Wednesday.

Klopp’s side then face West Ham in the Premier League on Saturday before the second leg of their Champions League last-16 tie against Inter Milan at Anfield on March 8.

Liverpool hold a 2-0 lead in that knockout tie and are considered second favourites to win the entire competition with the bookies, behind Premier League rivals Man City.

The Reds are in fantastic form, unbeaten in 13 games across all competitions since their shock 1-0 defeat by Leicester City on December 28.

They have won their last 10 games in succession and have only been defeated once in 24 matches in all competitions since early November.

Jonathan Woodgate, who won the League Cup with Tottenham in 2008, believes Liverpool have what it takes to win the quadruple this season.

"It’s possible. They’ve got the squad to do it. It will be tough but they’ve got every chance,” Woodgate said on BBC Radio 5 Live .

"Jurgen Klopp has brought passion and energy to the Premier League since he’s been here.

"It’s the first domestic trophy this season and Liverpool have won it. It will give them confidence. They’ve got almost a fully-fit squad available to push them on in the league. It’s only Roberto Firmino they need to get back.

"It’s better to win trophies than not and it’s better to win every single competition you enter and that’s what they’ve done with the first one.

"He’s won the European Cup, the League Cup, the Premier League. He’s a fantastic manager and has a fantastic connection with the fans and they absolutely adore him. He has a connection with his players and he’s done a magnificent job."
