The goalless affair at Crystal Palace was one of the most uneventful of the campaign for Jurgen Klopp, whose Liverpool side toiled to little effect in south London.
They did, at least, manage to make it three Premier League clean sheets in a row as they were held to a 0-0 draw. It moved the Reds to within six points of the top four with a game in hand to be played.
But you knew all of that, of course. What you might have missed were a series of intriguing subplots at Palace that were almost as entertaining as any of the actual action served up on the pitch.

Here are some of those moments...
Henderson tries to pull a fast one
Full marks for Jordan Henderson in his efforts to try and pull a fast one midway through the first half near the touchline where the managers stood.
After a tussle involving Cody Gakpo, the Netherlands captain's attempts to win the ball back for Liverpool saw him concede a foul before the ball went out of play.
Henderson, who was perhaps only pretending that he hadn't heard the whistle blow, quickly retrieved the ball and tried to restart the action with a quick throw down the line towards the general direction of Mohamed Salah.
Had the foul need been a awarded, it might have been a smart, inventive way of getting Liverpool on the counter attack. But alas, the Reds' captain was forced to admit defeat by referee Darren England, who quickly declared to him that it was in fact a Crystal Palace free kick and not a Liverpool throw.
It was worth a try, Jordan. You nearly got away with it.
Palace host takes no prisoners
What was meant to be a light-hearted penalty shootout between two teams of young mascots at half time turned into one man's personal crusade to get in as many digs at Liverpool as he could at Selhurst Park during the interval.
As the two teams lined up to take their kicks, the man with the mic asked the youngsters their names, their teams and where they were from prior to each penalty. This was when the Palace host decided to stick the knife in as gently and amusingly as he could.
"You're a Liverpool fan, are you?" he asked one youngster by the name of Max. "But you're not from Liverpool?! No change there then," he quipped before he was forced to announce that the Reds-supporting children had edged the shoot-out.
"Liverpool win the penalty shootout!" he declared to a large cheer from the away end. "Ah well, at least you're winning something this year!"
Ouch. Talk about playing the ball and the man.
Alexander-Arnold fumes at Matip
But no version of the ECHO's moments missed would be complete without a fume or two from the protagonists involved and there was one that came firmly from Trent Alexander-Arnold in the first half.
Joel Matip was in the eye of the storm this time, who was admonished for his wayward pass out of play as Liverpool tried to build something down the right side. In truth, neither player had a great game but Matip looked decidedly shaky in possession and this particular passage of play was no exception.
After Alexander-Arnold had worked his way into a promising position behind the Palace midfield, all that was needed was for Matip to play a pretty straightforward pass down the line to release the gifted full-back.
Instead, the centre-back could only send the ball hurtling towards the managers' technical areas, much to the chagrin of Alexander-Arnold, who made his frustrations known to his colleague. It summed up the night of action at Selhurst Park.
