Trent Alexander-Arnold says Liverpool have already gone back to the drawing board as they tackle a season like no other.
The Reds have made a slow start to the campaign and currently have half the amount of points of Premier League leaders Arsenal, albeit having played a game fewer.
Alarm bells have been ringing after below-par performances in a 2-1 defeat to Manchester United and, most alarmingly, a 4-1 Champions League reversal at Napoli, but Alexander-Arnold - who has been on the end of some fierce criticism for his own performances - believes a turnaround in fortunes will come on both a collective and personal level.
"I think I'm getting there, personally," the Liverpool right-back told Red Bull.
"It's hard because it's been different to how other seasons start, because normally you'll have like three or four games in August, at the weekends, and then it'll be internationals, then they'll start to introduce the Champions League, then it'll be another international...
"I always see the first part of the season as like three little blocks of four weeks with the internationals breaking them up, and each time you'll play a little bit more football.
"Whereas now it's like from the get go you're in at the deep end."
There was a sinking feeling at Old Trafford, a first defeat in the Premier League this calendar year, which made many sit up and take notice of the Reds' poor form, and Alexander-Arnold says Jurgen Klopp had plenty to say after the loss.
"The manager speaks directly after the game," he added, "and then we have a meeting the following day as well for five minutes or so, and the manager will speak again about the game when he's had a bit more time to process it, and it's not just acting on emotion.
'That [United] game was probably the big, bad game we had early on in the season, which was rough."
Klopp's words didn't quite seem to do the trick though, and after being plunged into crisis following the limp defeat in Naples, the German stated that he might need to "reinvent" his team in order to address their slump.
"I would say the result felt right because it's what we deserved, but in terms of how we played we didn't feel right on the pitch," admitted Alexander-Arnold.
"It wasn't natural, it didn't happen for us, we really needed to look at ourselves after that. It was humbling one."
With their last two Premier League fixtures against Wolves and Chelsea postponed, the Reds' only action since that Napoli loss saw them beat Ajax 2-1 to get their European campaign back on track, and Alexander-Arnold says the hard work begins here after Klopp took them back to basics.
"We've had meetings, and the emphasis in training has been on our system and how we need to play, where we need to be, the movement of the ball, becoming compact, defending well," he said.
"It was back to the drawing board after Napoli, and making sure that we need to start getting our stuff in order."
