Trent Alexander-Arnold insists the current Liverpool team deserve to be recognised as one of the greatest sides in Premier League history after their sensational season.
With two games remaining in their campaign, the Reds are still in the hunt for an historic quadruple. That does rely on Manchester City slipping up against Aston Villa on the final day of the Premier League season though, with Liverpool, who host Wolves on Sunday, trailing Pep Guardiola’s side by a point.
The League Cup and FA Cup are already in the bag for the Reds and with a Champions League final to come in Paris next weekend, they will have played in every possible match this season.
At one point in January, City were 14-points clear at the top of the table, even if Liverpool did have two games in hand, and few would have expected the title race to come down to the final 90 minutes.
But it has indeed gone down to the wire and Alexander-Arnold believes he and his teammates should feel nothing but immense pride when reflecting on their season, even if they fall short in the league.
“When there’s seven or eight fixtures to go, you think surely someone’s got to drop a few points,” Alexander-Arnold told Sky Sports.
“We have, but it’s been quite even. You think back to January and we were miles behind them and we’ve fought back, got ourselves into an amazing position.
“To push the way we have all in competitions this season, it’s got to be for me one of the best team performances over the course of a season in Premier League history.
“We’ve taken every trophy to the last game so that’s all you can really ask for. It’s been a special achievement, no matter what happens on Sunday.”
