'Tremendous' Pascal Struijk hailed as Leeds United defender's qualities highlighted

Former Leeds United defender Tony Dorigo heaped praise on Pascal Struijk after the defender's fine strike in the victory over Real Sociedad.

The 23-year-old's effort, which came after the ball fell to him on the edge of the Sociedad penalty area, rifled a shot past Alex Remiro in goal to level things in the sixth minute at Elland Road.

The strike proved to be key to the Whites' success as forward Rodrigo bagged a second after the break to give Leeds their second win over a La Liga opposition in a week.

Dorigo, who made 189 appearances for the Whites from 1991 to 1997 and is now a summariser for LUTV, waxed lyrical about Struijk's goal from outside the box.

"Pascal, he really has been tremendous this season, having to play at left-back, we know how good his defensive qualities are," he said. "Going forward I think he has just got better and better and here, well, this is the shot of a centre half. No messing about, no fancy curling it in the top corner, give it a thump. What a goal and what a strike."

Struijk has been vital for the success Leeds have had this season. He will no doubt be involved when the Whites welcome AS Monaco to Elland Road next week ahead of their Premier League return on December 28.
