Trees have been snapped in a Nottinghamshire town in what a councillor has described as "mindless vandalism". The saplings were found broken between Maryland Court and Denver Court in Stapleford on the morning of Thursday, April 27.
The vandalism comes less than two weeks after a plantation of trees were snapped in Hetley Pearson Recreation Ground in nearby Beeston. Councillor Richard MacRae, who represents the north ward of Stapleford, estimated about 10 trees were destroyed this time, and said it was the fault of "mindless idiots".
He told Nottinghamshire Live: "I can't believe it happened. People are very angry about it.

"They were funded by the Urban Tree Challenge Fund. When you try to make things look nice and make things better it's mindless idiots that ruin it.
"We are trying to plant more trees out there, it's not fair. It will cost money to replace them, that's money that can be used to improve parks and other things."
Mr MacRae said the vandals had also broken a tree in a nearby resident's garden.
"If someone knows who's done it, come forward and let us know," he added. "It's mindless vandalism and it's really sad."
Broxtowe Borough Council said it would replant the trees later this year. "The Council is very disappointed that a small number of people are ruining the local area for other residents to enjoy," said a spokesperson.
"We will look to replant trees in this area when the new tree planting season starts later in the year."
