Sefton Council is planning to install Christmas trees throughout the borough this year, as part of a “much bigger programme” to bring some festive cheer to residents.
Cabinet member for communities and housing, Cllr Trish Hardy told an overview and scrutiny meeting held at Bootle Town Hall last week that the installation of Christmas trees was “the issue most people contact me about.”
She said in response the council was promising a “much bigger programme this year” including fully cut trees across a number of Sefton locations.

Referring to a cabinet member update report Cllr Hardy presented to the committee, she said: “I recognise our community really wants to see Christmas being celebrated” adding this was also “incredibly important to local businesses.”
The council came in for criticism last year for its Christmas tree offerings, with one in Birkdale, described by one local resident as looking like it had been "dragged out of the canal", ending up being replaced by another which also left many residents unhappy.
Referring to last year's trees, Cllr Hardy said that while some had remained alive several others did not survive, adding that this was "disappointing."
As well as the trees being put up across Sefton, Cllr Hardy said: “Ward councillors have been cooperative and instigated activities across the borough” which will be funded out of ward budgets.
Locations listed for such events are Birkdale Village, Thornton, Crosby Village, South Road, Bootle Strand, Seaforth Village, Bispham Road, Kirkstone Road and Marion Square.
South Road, Birkdale Village and Thornton will have new tree pits installed.
The first of the Christmas events is due to take place at Bootle Strand on November 18 at 5pm.
Further events are scheduled for South Road on Thursday November 24 at 4.45pm, Bispham Road on November 25 at 5.30pm, Marion Square on November 29 at 6.30pm, Kirkstone Road on December 1 at 5pm and Thornton on December 2 at 6.45pm.
Birkdale will also be holding a Christmas event at the end of November, although the exact date has been listed as yet to be confirmed.
